Senior forward Macy McGlone came to Eastern three seasons ago and has since made a hefty mark on the women’s basketball record books.
Last season, McGlone had 13 double doubles in a row, surpassing the prior EIU record holder Toni Collins for the most double doubles in a season with 26.
McGlone was third in the NCAA during this season in double doubles—four behind Lauren Gustin, one behind Angel Reese and two ahead of Caitlin Clark.
In her final season, McGlone became first in double doubles at EIU all-time with 48.
McGlone started her collegiate basketball career close to her hometown of Greenville, Wisconsin.
She was recruited by former head coach Matt Bollant, who said he first started recruiting her out of high school. But McGlone chose the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee instead, transferring to Eastern after her second season.
In her EIU debut, McGlone was named to the All-OVC newcomer team. She would go on to be named All-OVC first team in all three of her seasons at Eastern.
McGlone was the Ohio Valley Conference player of the year in back-to-back years and was the first Eastern player to get player of the year in any conference. She is the 10th person to win back-to-back awards in OVC history.
When McGlone got to Eastern, she said it took her a season to ease into the environment. McGlone said it was an easy transition though.
“I mean obviously there was an adjustment period,” McGlone said. “But overall, I feel like it kind of went pretty smooth, at least smoother than I was expecting.”
McGlone is second in EIU history for season points all-time with 588, behind JoAnn Archer in 1981 with 607 and ahead of Rachel Galligan and Collins with 582 in 2009 and 1982 respectively.
McGlone is first for single season rebounds with 392, breaking the previous record of 361 set in 1981-1982. She is first in offensive rebounds with 141 and first in average rebounds per game with 11.9.
For a single season, McGlone is first and second in defensive rebounds with 251 and 248. She is tied for second in field goals made with 236.
McGlone is in the top 10 in eight different season long stats and is first in five of the categories. Over her career, she is top 10 for nine different stats and is first in four according to Eastern’s record books.
McGlone is first in school history in points per game with 16.9, first in total rebounds per game with 10.9, first in offensive rebounds with 317 and first in blocks per game with 1.7.
She is third in blocked shots with 159 and eighth all-time in points with 1487.
This year, McGlone helped lead Eastern to a 10-0 start to conference play, going undefeated at home through the season.
Last year, she led Eastern to the semifinals of the OVC Tournament. McGlone this year tried taking the team farther but lost in the quarterfinals to Western Illinois.
This season, McGlone was one of two other women to get more than 20 rebounds in a game.
She got 21 boards on Feb. 27 against Little Rock, joining Collins who had 22 and Abby Wahl who had 21 as the only three women to ever get more than 20 rebounds in EIU program history.
McGlone is also one of three women in Eastern history to have seven or more blocks in a game. She had seven blocks on Feb. 10, 2024, against Morehead State joining Erica Brown with 10 and Sabína Oroszová with seven.
McGlone is in the top 10 in a few national statistics. She is tied for 10th in double doubles this season with 18 and tied for eighth in rebounds with 350. She is sixth in rebounds per game with 11.7.
She is now done for her collegiate career. Head coach Marqus McGlothan said that her impact cannot be overstated.
“She’s meant a lot and not just on the court, but off the court,” McGlothan said. “Her energy, her competitive nature and selflessness, she’s just been a great player on the court. I just love having her.”
McGlone is now done with her career at Eastern.
Overall, her career has been successful with all her statistical achievements and awards.
She has made her mark as one of the best basketball players in program history.
