Eastern men’s tennis was able to win their second straight match as they beat the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 5-2.
The Panthers won the doubles point with No. 1 and No. 3 doubles winning. Junior Tyler Carlin and fifth-year senior Thomas Wallace won 7-5 at No. 1 doubles and fifth-year senior Pau Riera and sophomore Willam Hays won 7-6 (7-3) at No. 3 doubles.
Eastern won three out of the first four singles to give them the 5-2 win.
Hays finished first at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over junior Guy Finkelstein. This was Hays’ fourth singles win of the season.
Carlin was next to finish at No. 3 singles with a 1-6, 2-6 loss to sophomore Axel Sabourin.
Fifth-year senior Cameron Slabbert finished next at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win over freshman Eytan Michaeli. This was Slabbert’s sixth singles win of the season and his fourth straight.
Wallace was able to finish it off for the Panthers at No. 5 singles with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) win against senior Dylan Brown. This was Wallace’s fourth singles win of the season and his second straight.
Junior Zach White came out with a win at No. 4 singles 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) while Riera ended with a loss at No. 1 singles 6-4, 1-6, 4-6. It was White’s sixth win of the season.
This win puts the Panthers at 3-16 overall and 2-0 in the Horizon League. Their next game is on Saturday against Belmont University at 10 a.m. at the Darling Courts.
