BREAKING: Body found in Lake Charleston Sunday

The Charleston Fire Department found a person’s body in Lake Charleston Sunday afternoon.

The Coles County Sheriff’s Department requested Charleston Police Department and CFD respond to a missing person’s report around 2:45 p.m., according to CFD’s press release.

The missing person’s vehicle was found at a boat ramp on Lake Charleston. 

The search for the missing person included searching in and around the lake, according to the press release.

A rescue diver found the person’s body in Lake Charleston near a boat dock around 4:20 p.m. where the person was confirmed dead.

The person drowned according to the Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers. 

At this time, Schniers could not release any other information as some family have not been informed yet.

The road to Lake Charleston was closed during this time and has since been reopened, according to the press release.

Responders cleared the scene around 5:10 p.m.

The sheriff’s department, CFD and CPD were assisted by Eastern’s University Police Department and the Lincoln Fire Protection District Dive Team.
