The Health Education and Resource Center hosted a presentation entitled Sex is Like Pizza. The event took place in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union in the Effingham room at 3 p.m.

The presentation focused on consent to sex and dived deeper into safe sex practices.

The presenter, Cynthia Kmety, is one of the mental health coordinators at the Health Education Resouce Center, HERC.

She was able to provide more insight on the purpose of this event.

“The purpose of Sex is Like Pizza is to focus on consent,” Kmety said. “We hope that students become more comfortable regarding the topic of consent after this program.”

Kmety also explained how this open session was able to inform students about sexuality and consent in fun, interactive ways. There were various interactive activities including creating a “pizza” to represent consent.

She also used this presentation for students to walk away with “more confidence to talk to their sexual partners, or anyone, about consent and how it is used properly,” Kmety said.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, this presentation was shown to inform students. Kmety also provided advice for students who want to learn about their sexual health.

“I would suggest that students who want to learn about their sexual health,” Kmety said. “Attend one of the HERC’s General Health programs”.

Some of the HERC’s General Health programs include Rubber Lovers and At Your Cervix. They will be tabling on campus in the MLK Jr. Union on February 14 for Valentine’s Day sexual health.

For any more information about the HERC and the services they provide, they’re located in suite 2201 in Blair Hall from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Cynthia Kmety will also be hosting a Self Esteem Night where the movie Lilo and Stitch will be playing alongside coloring sheets and snacks being provided. This will be taking place on February 10 in the Great Room at Pemberton Hall.
