Eastern’s men’s tennis team hosted Southern Indiana and Lewis University last Friday and Saturday at the EIU Panther Hidden Dual. EIU had wins in both the doubles and singles categories.

On the first day of the Dual, sophomore Tyler Carlin defeated Lewis’s Boris Redkow and USI’s Yahor Bahdanovich in singles.

EIU’s senior Pau Riera also beat Lewis’s Tetenda Mutetwa but lost to USI’s Omar Elsamahy in singles.

EIU’s seniors Thomas Wallace, Cameron Slabbert, Max Pilipovic-Kljajic, and junior Kyle Burton lost in their singles matches on the first day.

Lewis won all of the doubles matches against EIU and USI on Friday.

Riera was the only one to win in doubles for EIU on Saturday as he defeated Lewis’s Oliwer Wierzbicki. Wallace and freshman Alex Dinkov were defeated by Lewis’s Redkow and Grant Miller.

EIU did better on Saturday when it came to doubles.

Wallace and Carlin defeated USI’s Lucas Sakamaki and Elsamahy 6-4 and USI’s Sakamaki and Alfrendo Vogelaar 7-6(2).

Slabbert and Dinkov defeated USI’s Bahdanovich and Vogelaar 6-3. They lost to USI’s Elsamahy and Bahdanovich 6-3.

Riera and Pilipovic-Kljajic defeated USI’s Dylan Brown and Quinten Gillespie 6-1 and USI’s Gillespie and Guy Finkelstein.

The Panthers look to continue their success as they head to the Illinois State Redbird Invite this weekend and then the ITA Midwest Regionals held at Illinois in mid-October.
