The Eastern women’s tennis team opened its season over the weekend, playing Omaha on Jan. 22 and Olivet Nazarene on Jan. 23.
The Panthers fell 4-3 against Omaha and then bounced back the next day, beating Olivet Nazarene 7-0.
Against Omaha, Rachel Papavasilopoulos and Christine Gouws won at No. 1 doubles, Papavasilopoulos won at No. 1 singles, Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova won at No. 3 singles and Brittany Steven won at No. 4 singles.
Against Olivet Nazarene, Eastern won all singles matches in straight sets with Papavasilopoulos, Gouws, Bukraba-Ulanova, Steve, Lauren Ellis and Kaitlyn Snyder picking up the wins.
Papavasilopoulos and Gouws won No. 1 doubles and Steven and Bukraba-Ulanova won No. 2 doubles with each pair winning 6-0.
Ellis and Snyder won at No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-3.
Eastern plays again Jan. 30 against Creighton and Jan. 31 against Northern Iowa with both matches beginning at 10 a.m.
