BOT accepting nominees for honorary degrees

Staff Report

Eastern’s Board of Trustees is accepting nominations for honorary degrees.

Nominations are due by November 18 and should include two letters of recommendation/support and supporting documents to show why the nominee is being nominated and how they fit the criteria.

The degrees may be awarded to individuals that have achieved “record of major distinction at the State or national level in such areas as education, public service, research, humanities, business or the professions.”

In some circumstances individuals who have not been recognized nationally or statewide but have made significant contributions to Eastern or higher education may receive an honorary degree.

Elected or appointed public officials in state and local government, members and employees of the BOT and members of employees of the Board of Higher Education are ineligible to be awarded an honorary degree during their term of office or employment.

Nominations forms can be found in Eastern’s online newsletter.
