James “Jimmy” Lund, a Spring 2020 graduate and member of the Lambda Gamma chapter of Sigma Nu at Eastern, died Sunday morning.

Fraternity brothers and friends took to social media to remember Lund after hearing of his death, the tweet from his fraternity’s chapter reading,  “We (are) saddened to announce the passing of our brother James Lund though his time here was short he no doubt made a lasting Impact on everyone he met and the memories will never be forgotten rest easy brother.”

Reid Krausen, a junior graphic design major, president of the Interfraternity Council and member of Sigma Nu, expressed how great of a loss Lund’s death is to the Greek community at Eastern.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Jimmy, a cherished member of the Lambda Gamma Sigma Nu brotherhood. His passing represents an enormous personal loss to each and every one who is involved in with Greek life at EIU. I extend my deepest sympathies to the Lund family,” Krausen said. “May the soul of their son be at peace with our Heavenly Father.”

Nathan Wehr, Director of Fraternity and Sorority Programs, encouraged students mourning the loss of Lund to lean on each other.

“The entire fraternity and sorority life community is saddened at the loss of one of our own. Our hearts go out to the family and friends that we close to him, and especially the gentlemen of the Sigma Nu chapter here at Eastern Illinois University,” Wehr said. “For those within our fraternity and sorority community affected by this heartbreaking loss, please lean on each for support and if needed, please contact the Counseling Center at EIU and lean on your brotherhood!”

Lund’s friends described him as a kind and fun-loving person.

“He was always lively no matter when I seen him, he was hype about something, he was passionate and that’s not something you can teach,” Chateau Fouchea, a junior criminology major and member of Sigma Nu, said. “I loved him, he was my brother and he be will dearly missed, especially on college football Saturday when Michigan plays; that was my favorite thing to do was watch him rage at Michigan’s quarterback Shea Patterson.”

Justin Haley, a junior management major and member of Sigma Nu described Lund as “a fun, goofy, very caring person, someone you could always talk to about anything,”

Spring 2020 graduate Reilly Foes said Lund “loved to laugh and made sure to make everyone around him laugh.”

Quin Holec, a junior marketing major and friend of Lund’s said he was a good friend to her as well.

“Jimmy was someone who lit up the entire room,” Holec said. “He was kind, genuine, funny. He was every thing you could ever ask for in a friend.”

His friends also shared their favorite memories with Lund.

Holec said the way he expressed appreciation for friends is something she will remember about him.

“It’s hard to choose a specific memory, but I would say how every time Jimmy and I were together, he never failed to express his love for me and everyone around him,” Holec said.

Michael O’Connor, a Spring 2020 graduate, said he remembers how Lund brought joy to those around him.

“To put it short he was a kind soul and was always able to put a smile on peoples faces. He meant a lot to a lot of people and he didn’t get enough credit for it,” O’Connor said. “He was always there for a brother in need and he will always be someone I look up to.”

Holec said she hopes everyone knows someone like Lund.

“For those who didn’t know Jimmy, I hope they have someone like him in their life. He was truly one of a kind and left a mark on everyone around him,” Holec said. “He was the most caring person around and someone who you could always count on and for that, I’m very lucky to have known him.”

Currently no funeral plans for Lund have been made public, this story will be updated as information becomes available.
