‘DEN at Home’: Letter from JJ Bullock

JJ Bullock, Editor-in-Chief

I am in first place in the National League Central Division.

I cannot tell you much about how my online classes have been going during the stay-at-home order because to be quite honest a large chunk of my focus has been on my MLB the Show franchise mode team. And yes, my beloved Milwaukee Brewers and I are in first-place.

For those who don’t know, MLB the Show is a video game on the Playstation 4 and it is also my new full-time job now that we are all quarantined at home. Being stuck at home is tough business. My part-time job as a waiter is currently on hiatus until restaurants are given the O.K. to reopen and my duties as editor-in-chief of this publication have slowed down significantly since Eastern’s campus closed.

I have had nothing but time by myself in my empty home and a large majority of that time has been spent trying to get my Milwaukee Brewers to the World Series. I am pretty sure I am still enrolled in classes at Eastern, but with my pivotal three-game series with the Cubs quickly approaching, I haven’t really had the time to dedicate to school. Oh well.

All jokes aside, my time at home has been spent as I am sure much of all of yours’ has been. I have been watching a lot of television (I highly recommend “Ozark” on Netflix), playing video games and truly doing my due diligence to adjust to life as an online student.

Truly I miss going to class, seeing people on campus, hanging out with my friends, enjoying a drink (or 12) at Ike’s or Marty’s. It is hard not to feel robbed of my final months of college, but I have found solace knowing that there are college seniors all over the country feeling the same way.

This column series “DEN at Home” was designed so we in the Eastern community can share stories with each other during social distancing.

“DEN at Home” is an open-letter series available to all Eastern students, staff and faculty to submit their own letters to us for publication where they can share their stories with the people we would normally interact with on our campus.

If you would like to submit your own letter, you may do so by emailing it to myself at jpbullock@eiu.edu, dennewsdesk@gmail.com or deneic@gmail.com. Just include your name, year in school, major, or job at Eastern, along with the tagline “DEN at Home” and we will publish your letter to our website and social media. You may include an image of yourself from quarantine if you wish as well.

Thank you for reading my story, I cannot wait to read all of yours.

Stay safe at home Eastern.
