Education job fair slated for Wednesday
November 5, 2019
EIU Career Services is hosting the annual Fall Education Job Fair Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union Grand Ballroom.
Career Services Director Bobbi Kingery said the fair is a great way for students of many majors to network with potential future employers.
“Students should attend because it is an opportunity to meet face to face with hiring personnel from school districts – and they are hiring for all positions in the districts – teachers, counselors, social workers, speech pathologists – all of these and more could find opportunities at the job fair,” Kingery said in an email.
Kingery said students of all ages are encouraged to attend the fair, even if they may think it will not be beneficial.
“Some districts already know their hiring needs 2-4 years out, so freshmen who have an idea where they would like to teach might do well to meet with districts now and start building relationships – and that goes for all levels of student,” Kingery said.
There will be schools from all over Illinois at the fair, as well as some from out of state.
The variety of schools gives students an opportunity to speak with employers in areas they may be interested in.
“It also gives our students chances to learn about different types of education environments – rural, urban, charter schools, etc.,” Kingery said.
Out-of-state schools, districts and offices will be coming from:
• Glendale, Arizona
• Chicago, Illinois
• Davenport, Iowa
• Indianapolis, Indiana
• Clarksville, Tennesse
• Ridgeland, South Carolina
• Lansing, Michigan
• Unalakleet, Alaska
• Cedar Rapids, Iowa
• Bethel, Alaska
• Pahrump, Nevada
Some in-state local schools, districts and offices will be coming from:
• Chicago
• Charleston
• Effingham
• Decatur
• Champaign
• Danville
• Springfield
• East St. Louis
• Normal
• Peoria
Several other schools, districts and offices from other areas in the state will also be in attendance.
Positions the schools, districts and offices are looking to fill include educators for various disciplines, special education educators, school social workers, teacher’s aides and several other positions.
Schools, districts and offices will be scouting for professionals who can work at schools with grades kindergarten through 12th.
The full list of schools that are registered for the event can be found on the EIU website under career services and then the workshop and events tab.
