Earth Week kicks off April 20, ends April 26

In events all around Charleston, Eastern students can participate in Earth Week from April 20 through 26.

Seven events are planned for the week.

Lake Charleston Work Day will be an all-day event on Saturday, which is Earth Day, and volunteers will help restore the habitat surrounding the lake.

The EIU Tree Ceremony will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the north entrance of Lantz Area.

Trash pick-up day will consist of general trash pick-up activities on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Kids Info Day will be held at Newman Catholic Church on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. to teach children about the environment through hands on activities.

The Pledge and Think Tank will be held Thursday in the Bridge Lounge in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for students to pledge to be environmentally friendly and receive prizes to represent the environmental activism on campus.

The final day of Earth Week, April 26, will consist of Rain Garden Planting and Lake Charleston Tree Planting.

Rain Garden Planting will be at the Center for Clean Energy Research and Education from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lake Charleston Tree Planting will be at Lake Charleston from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
