Career Services warns about phishing email

Staff Report

Career Services warned students Monday about a phishing email that was being circulated around campus and listed some red flags people should keep in mind for future reference.

According to the warning Career Services sent out via email, the scam email said, “EIU College Job Placement & Student Services has selected you as a Secret Shopper in your area. This is a job that will not affect your present employment & no sign up fee. It’s fun, rewarding and flexible. You can make up to $1,000 weekly.”

The phishing email was signed by “Job Placement & Student Service” in Charleston.

Career Services reiterated that this email was in fact not from them; rather, it was clearly a scam email.

If students identify a potential scam, they should notify Career Services at 581-2412 or at careers@eiu.edu.
