Informational meeting to be held about BLM flag

An informational meeting on putting a Black Lives Matter flag up on Eastern’s campus will be held on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Effingham Room of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

A petition was started a month ago for those who support the hanging of the flag to sign, and Morgan Colvin, a junior political science major, and Keshyra Bluminberg, a junior English secondary education major, presented to Student Senate to explain their goals with the flag and answered the senators’ questions.

The Black Lives Matter movement was started in 2013 in response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman for the murder of Trayvon Martin.
