Volunteer opportunities available this week to students

Several opportunities to volunteer on campus and around the community are available all this week.

The Standing Stone Community Center is in need of one more volunteer to help move their thrift shop items over to the Carpenter’s Table locations. The move will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday and again on from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Volunteers will be help clean, sort clothes, pack up the thrift shop, move the items, unpack and set up at the new location.

Another opportunity includes partnering with Charleston Transitional Facility clients on campus from 11:25 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Thursday. Volunteers will eat lunch, walk around the pond and participate in activities with the CTF clients.

The Civic Engagement and Volunteerism Office is also looking for volunteers to visit the Coles County Animal Shelter from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Thursday. Volunteers will spend one-on-one time with the animals and give them attention and exercise.

According to the Civic Engagement and Volunteerism Office, closed-toed shoes are a must for those who wish to participate.

Paradise Equestrian Therapy is a volunteer opportunity this week with open slots from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Volunteers will be assisting with walking the horses and playing games with individuals with special needs.
