UB movies offers free movie entertainment

On Friday and Saturday nights, the University Board puts on a free feature film for students who do not want to travel off campus to look for entertainment.

Kara Butorac, the movie coordinator for the UB, said it is a way for students to entertain themselves whenever they do not feel like spending money on events. Butorac said most of the films the UB screens have not come out on DVD yet.

They usually try to get movies within a couple of months of their debut through a company named Swank.

And this year, like last year, they have set a list of recently released films that played at theaters all across the country, some of them blockbuster hits, including “The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Avengers” and “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”

Last weekend they played “The Hunger Games,” and Butorac said a crowd piled into Buzzard Hall.

“It was so packed, students had to sit on the floor if they wanted to sneak a peak of the film,” Butorac said.

She also said students who are too young to go out and drink at the bars on the weekends can take advantage of each screening, and in doing so, students will find that the movie events they host can be used as a great way to socialize.

Butorac said the group tries looking for movies that will appeal to everyone, that everyone might enjoy.

Butorac said the UB plans on playing films for the rest of the year, and in November, students will get a chance to view their fellow classmates’ works during the student film festival.
