Panthers look to improve results from last year at SIU Invite
Eastern’s women’s golf team will travel to Carbondale to compete in the Southern Illinois Saluki Invitational on March 24-26.
The women are looking to build on a successful third place finish in the Butler Bulldog Florida Invitational over spring break.
Placing 12th out of 14 last year in the Southern Illinois Saluki Invitational, the team wants to improve their results this time around. They say that one of their biggest goals is to always keep improving.
The most room for improvement lies in their short game, according to head coach Mike Moncel. Coach Moncel said that the team used this week to focus on their short game.
“[We focus on] the short game,” he said. “Then we worked on the short game, then we worked on short game with a little Zen.”
If their hard work pays off, the women can definitely improve their results from last year and see results more similar to last week in Jacksonville.
At last year’s invite, junior Emily Calhoon led all Panthers with a 23-over-par 167, which placed her 30th among 91 competitors. Senior Kathryn Koester also stood out, as she shot a 170 (+26), and placed 46th.
Following this meet, the women will have a two-week break before they head to Peoria to take part in the Bradley Invitational.
