Organizations to help raise money for residents
The St. Vincent de Paul Society will be hosting a trivia night in order to help local Charleston residents who are in need of financial assistance.
Jackie Reinhart, the president of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, said the event has taken place for the past couple of years and the community seems to really enjoy it.
The trivia night will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Moriarty Hall in St. Charles Borromeo Church in Charleston.
Reinhart, a senior communications studies major, said participants are allowed to bring food. Food will also be available for purchase.
Reinhart said the event costs $10 for individual adult members and $5 for team members and students, with teams having a limit of 10 members.
Reinhart said adults or students who want to come but are not part of a team are encouraged to come because there will be teams they will be able to tack onto.
Newman Catholic Center branch of The St. Vincent de Paul Society visits and assesses the need for financial assistance for members of the Charleston community, Reinhart said.
“We try to do what we can,” Reinhart said.
Reinhart said through donations to the organization, the St. Vincent de Paul Society is able to help the underprivileged members of the Charleston community make ends meet.
The society helps by providing financial assistance for living necessities like food, water and heat, Reinhart said.
“These are essential things that people take for granted,” Reinhart said.
Reinhart said the society also helps community members find new and creative ways to remain financially stable.
Many people help out through the church by donating furniture or giving monetary donations, Reinhart said.
Reinhart said she enjoys her time with the society and said she feels she has gained from being president of the organization.
“It’s a great way to get involved in the community, to get service work and to get leadership roles,” Reinhart said.
Reinhart also said by attending the event, students and community members are helping those in need in their community.
“I know students don’t always feel like a huge part of the community, but they are,” Reinhart said. “By going to this event, they are helping the people in this area.”
