The Residence Hall Association will meet today to discuss committees for next semester.

RHA will meet at 5 p.m. in Andrews Hall.

The committees that will be formed include the president’s council, programming, social justice and diversity, community service and community development.

Each of these committees possesses certain responsibilities to the RHA.

The president’s council is made up of RHA President Jake Nees and the presidents of each hall council.

This committee works to promote improvement within the separate halls, as well as recruiting new members.

The programming committee plans events that the RHA sponsors throughout the year.

These activities include Homecoming Weekend, Kids and Family Weekend and other social gatherings and events.

Information on Kids and Friends Weekend during February 2012 will be available once it is further discussed by the RHA.

The social justice and diversity committee works to bring social awareness to Eastern and diverse groups on campus. They also sponsor Social Justice and Diversity Week.

The community service committee leads fundraisers for the RHA and helps with housing scholarships.

The community development committee works to unify their fellow members of the RHA and to create networking within the council and residents.

Elizabeth Burbatt, a National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) representative, said that each school brings students to the conference to represent them.

“They’ll be going to different programs throughout the day. There’s an awards banquet and people submit bids for best chapter of the year,” Keeler said.

Dondre Keeler, National/Illinois Communication Coordinator, said each committee will begin discussions on future events.

“I will also be collecting applications for our next conference coming up, which is the Illinois Residence Hall Association conference,” he said.

The IRHA conference is set for the weekend of Feb. 15-17.
