Swim team winless
The Eastern swimming teams once again failed to tally a win this past Saturday, this time at home in a dual meet against the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames.
The men lost their third straight meet by a score of 122-76, while the women have lost their fourth straight by 137-60. Both teams are still winless on the season.
The Panthers have only registered three-first place finishes and ten-second place finishes combined for both teams. Junior Hailey Foss won the women’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.34.
The men won the 200-yard freestyle led by senior Rich Waszak, junior Daniel Enge, junior Michael Lacine and junior Joe Ciliak with a final time of 1:29.95. The women also won their 200-yard freestyle by the team of junior Kelli Dicanio, sophomore Mary Lacine, Foss and sophomore Olga Livshits timed at 1:45.93.
Freshman Nikki Peck won second place in the women’s 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:59.15, while junior Christian Rhoten also won second place in the men’s 1000-yard freestyle at 10:46.61.
“We lacked a lot of energy today,” head coach Elliott McGill said in a press release. “The last few weeks of training have crept up on us, and even though we had some solid swims and times, we struggled as a team to swim through the soreness.”
The Panthers will have a chance to recover mentally and physically, as they do not have any meets for the next couple of weeks.
Their next meet will be at the House of Champions Invitational in at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 in Indianapolis.
