Nees re-elected as RHA president
Resident Hall Association members voted for next semester’s executive positions at the meeting Thursday in Lawson Hall.
Jacob Nees, a junior sociology major and current president of RHA, was elected to the position of president. He said he is the second president in 30 years to be elected to two consecutive terms.
Since he has become acclimated to his position throughout the year, Nees said he foresees fewer delays next year.
“I’ve (already) been in the position, so I know the ins and outs from last year,” he said.
Nees said he plans to continue to motivate the executive board next year.
“We have a good bond, so getting motivated isn’t hard,” he said. “I (plan to) build that connection with them.”
Nees said he uses his position and positive attitude to help the organization and the members.
Nees said he also has new plans for his position next semester, such as increasing attendance for meetings and getting Greek Court more involved. He said he also wants to get to know more people.
“(I can) do things good for me and the organization as a whole,” he said. “It’s not about you, it’s about everybody else.”
Andrew Lilek, a sophomore art major and current treasurer, was elected to the position of vice president. He said he was filled for the position last spring.
Lilek said he plans to bring ideas from himself and others to better RHA.
He said he also plans to help the committee chairs of RHA.
“I can be their right-hand man in helping in everything they do,” he said. “If I can do my part, it will make their lives easier.”
Eddie Hillman, a freshman biology major, was elected to the position of secretary. He said his organizational skills make him ideal for the position.
“I can take detailed notes and make things presentable,” he said.
Jenna Kuehl, a junior accounting major, was elected to the position of treasurer. She said she is extremely competent to handle the monetary affairs of RHA.
“I like to keep the budget up to date and keep (people) informed with what’s going on with the budget,” she said.
Dondre Keeler, a sophomore family and consumer sciences major and current vice president of RHA, was elected to be a delegate at the National Communications Coordination and Illinois Communications Coordination.
He said throughout his position this year, he has learned to become more organized and plans to continue this for next year.
“Getting people ready for the organization is a huge task,” he said. “I think that’s one thing I can do well.”
Keeler said he has attended conferences in the past that sparked his interest in the position.
“At each conference, I’ve learned something new that trained me to know what I want to do and helped me become the leader I want to be,” he said.
Keeler said he hopes he can use his position to help others.
“I want to collaborate with other schools to make our organization as great as we can be,” he said. “I want to take it to the next level.”
