Resolution asks for trip funding

The Student Senate will discuss a resolution this week that will help the Student Action Team in preparation for lobbying in Springfield; the senate will also be discussing new business.

Christy Anderson, the student executive vice president, and Tommy Nierman, a Student Senate member, are introducing a new resolution at the meeting.

“Since leaders from all over the state will be at IBHE – SAC I believe it is necessary for us to attend so that we can plan for lobbying in Springfield,” Anderson said.

This resolution is asking for money out of the student government’s budget so Anderson, and Brad Saribekian, a junior accounting major, and an Illinois’ public sector chair, can go to an Illinois Board of Higher Education – Student Advisory Committee conference in DeKalb during April.

“There are certain things that universities do that have to go through board approval and (the Student Advisory Committee makes) recommendations to the board,” said Saribekian, according to The Daily Eastern News’s Feb. 7 issue.

The resolution is asking for money for one night lodging, 450 miles of travel, other minor expenses and food.

The IBHE-SAC is made up of Eastern students who meet six times a year in an effort to better higher education.

According to the IBHE website, the IBHE analyzes the needs and requirements of Illinois higher education and modifies the master plan that guides development of the state’s system of public and private colleges and universities.

The tabled distinguished professor banquet resolution will also be discussed.

The resolution is asking for money from the student government’s budget for the cost of the banquet.

At the banquet, awards will be given to the professors who have been nominated by Eastern students.

The Student Senate meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Arcola-Tuscola Room of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.
