History of Franklin plant presented at Booth library
Wesley Whiteside, a professor emeritus of botany, continues to successfully grow the Franklinia altamaha, a now relatively rare plant that can no longer be found in the wild. The plant, more commonly known as the Franklin tree, has been growing on Whiteside’s 5-acre botanical garden east of Charleston for nearly 50 years.
