Concert will bring new funk
The Mitch Davis Experience and the band Indigo Sun will perform at the 7th Street Underground in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union today at 7 p.m. The event is known as the Moon Party Dance Party.
This will be the first electronic music concert Eastern has hosted, said Cassie Falco, the event’s coordinator for the University Board and a sophomore family and consumer science major.
“It will be a very good time with very good vibes,” Falco said, “It’s a different type of music not a lot of people have been exposed to.”
The Mitch Davis Experience involves the music of Mitch Davis, a senior management information systems major, who said he looks forward to playing for his school.
“It’s great,” Davis said. “I don’t have to travel too far, it looks good on a resume, and it’s fun.”
Davis said his music includes many genres including jazz and funk. To create this sound he uses keyboards, drum machines, mix machines and talk boxes.
He said he must carefully select a small sample of his music for his 30-minute time slot, but there will also be lights and lasers.
The other band, Indigo Sun, is from the Chicago area. While they have never played for Eastern before, Kyle Liss, the band’s keyboa srdist, said they have played in Charleston.
Liss said the band aims to heal people through its music.
“We are big believers in shamanic tribes,” Liss said. “We would like to approximate that same positive energy through our music.”
Indigo Sun has played several shows in the Chicago area as well as The Woodchuck Festival of Music and Art in the Charleston area.
Like Indigo Sun, The Mitch Davis Experience has also performed at Woodchuck and has also played at Freydom Festival, Squarefest and several parties within Charleston.
Both bands also plan to play at the upcoming Ravechuck in Charleston.
The event is free to attend and includes several giveaways such as glow bracelets.
