Carols on the Concourse boost holiday spirits
It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, indeed.
All around campus decorations are going up and the lights on Old Main are bright in the night.
However, that is not all Eastern is doing to get everyone’s holiday spirits up.
During this entire week, the Doudna Fine Arts Center will be hosting Carols on the Concourse, which is a week long event that where one group of students and faculty will be performing per day.
Starting at noon everyday the carolers will be performing holiday classics that range from “Frosty the Snowman” to “Carol of the Bells”.
Dan Crews, the director of Patron Services for Doudna, was in attendance at the previous shows.
“It’s a great thing, for the concourse to be doing something like this,” Crews said.
Students, faculty and staff are all invited to come out and enjoy their lunches in the Doudna with the sounds of the holiday being performed live.
Performing on Monday was the women of the Sigma Alpha Iota Musical Sorority, and Tuesday was a chamber ensemble of flute players.
Rebecca Johnson, the director of the flute ensemble and a flute professor in the music department, said the ensemble has been playing together all year and so its performance was extremely cohesive.
Today the Trumpet Quartet will perform and on Thursday the Faculty Brass will perform, and ending the week on Friday the Trombone Choir will perform.
Dennis Malak, the public functions supervisor, said he thinks the performances so far have really “hit the hits.”
