Faculty to perform ‘Musical Montage’

Eastern faculty members, Richard Robert Rossi and Anna Cromwell, will perform a classical music montage for the public 7:30 p.m. today in the Dvorak Concert Hall at the Doudna Fine Arts Center.

The event is titled “Musical Montage.”

Spectators will hear compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Sergey Prokofiev, Aram Khachaturian and Ludwig Van Beethoven.

Rossi will be playing the piano and the organ accompanied by Cromwell on the violin.

The selections will include “Prelude and Fugue in C minor” and “BWS 546” by Bach, “Pathetique Piano Sonata No. 8” and “Opus 13” by Beethoven, “Violin Sonata in D Major” and “No. 2” and “Opus 94” by Prokofiev and “Toccata” by Khachaturian.

Rossi is the director of orchestral and choral activities and a professor of music and Cromwell is an instrumental division director and an associate professor of violin and viola.

A montage is a literary, musical and artistic composite of juxtaposition elements.

“The montage is different then a lot of other recitals because you are going to hear different instrumentals such as the organ, piano and violin,” Rossi said.

Rossi said he believes the different instrumentals will create a pleasant “contrast of colors” for the audience.

Rossi has been a music professor at Eastern since 2000. Recently, Rossi has conducted the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Springfield.

Cromwell is currently going to contribute to DUO XII’s new CD titled “New Music for Violin and Cello” accompanied Mira Frish, a cellist.

This year is Cromwell’s first year at Eastern.

Cromwell said she was busy preparing for the montage and was unable to comment on the event.

The performance is free and will last until about 9 p.m.
