Academic atmosphere on campus to be addressed

Editors note: The Daily Eastern News will be taking a look at the committees within the Student Government. Look for this story every Friday for more information about the committees.

The student government’s academic affairs committee acts as a liaison between the student body and the senate. The academic affairs committee consists of two senators and two senators-in-training.

Holly Henry, a member of the student government, is the chair of the committee. The committee focuses its attention on any topic regarding academics for students, which includes classes, tutoring, and finals.

“A lot of what we did last semester is still being discussed this semester,” Henry said.

Some of these topics include a project called ‘What Can You Do with Your Major?” getting connected with Registered Student Organizations, Advertising the Gregg Technology Center, and extending library hours.

“What Can You Do with Your Major?” is going to be a spring project in conjunction with the Alumni Association.

“This will give students an idea of what they can do with their major or degree without being in line with their degree,” Henry said.

The committee is trying to get a collection of 100 alumni biographies and create a display case to for 9th Street Hall. Henry also wants to try and put on some of these displays out in other areas.

They are also attempting to create a Facebook page to promote their efforts.

In addition to these topics already being addressed, the Student Senate has been conducting campus surveys.

Suggestions for the academic affairs committee includes lengthening of tutoring hours and trying to push back the time to withdraw from a class in order to get money back.
