Robbery suspects arrested

Two men have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery that took place at the Mattoon Holiday Inn Express and Suites on Oct. 3.

Jason M. Bolt and his brother Darrel are currently being held at Coles County Jail and are awaiting their preliminary hearing.

Mattoon Police Department Chief Jeff Branson said the two suspects might also be responsible for another robbery at a Cracker Barrel in Urbana, that happened two days prior to the one at the Holiday Inn.

The department is anticipating charges being filed at Champaign County States Attorney regarding that incident from the Urbana Police Department.

“I am confident that our suspects are also their suspects,” said Branson.

A search warrant was used to locate eight guns found at their residences, two of which police believe were used in the Holiday Inn robbery.

Branson said the guns were also stolen.

Both suspects could face charges at the state and federal level for firearms that were involved.

They are being charged with armed robbery and theft of a motor vehicle that was stolen from Brown’s Auto Sales in Mattoon, and found burned in a field in Iroquois County.

The Bolts were arrested Friday.
