Get rid of fear, gain confidence

Daniel Packard, comedian and dating doctor, gave students suggestions on how to gain the attention of the opposite sex at Tuesday’s University Board lecture.

“Anything you want, you can get from this show,” Packard said.

Packard’s main point was to show both men and women that they do not have to be afraid of each other.

“For the most part, men and women want the same thing,” he said.

Packard said people do gain more confidence by drinking, but he wanted to teach everyone how to be confident without the use of alcohol.

“I want a world where men and women are confident sober,” he said.

Packard did talk to the women for much of the show. He said, women need to own up to how they are.

“It’s the power of being a women, and that’s an awesome power,” he said.

Packard also spoke of how women and men do not get along because they are very different from each other.

“Men and women think out of different sides of their brains,” Packard said.

Packard also said men are less vocal than women, who often complain and tell their problems to their girlfriends.

Packard said, men need to be more aggressive.

Do you know what girls really like,” he asked the audience? “Confidence.”

Packard told a story about a man he was with who spoke very aggressively to a woman and still got her phone number.

“He owned his territory and wasn’t apologetic about it,” Packard said.

On the other hand, Packard said, women need to be less judgmental and less angry.

“The second you don’t like something a man does he’s a douche bag,” he said.

However, he said, women need to look past the mistakes because no one is perfect.

“You have to be patient and get to know a guy,” Packard said.

He also said, women need to be confident and not change their minds as much because it scares men.

“What you like and what you hate are the same thing,” Packard said. “And nobody knows the difference.”

Throughout the performance, students had the ability to interact with Packard.

Students could text their questions to him at any time in the performance.

At one point, Packard asked female audience members to text their sexual fantasies and they were placed anonymously on a screen.

“We know you’re not innocent virgins anymore,” Packard said.

Alyssa Anderson, the vice chair woman of the UB, said they picked Packard because he was different.

“We haven’t done anything like this in a while,” she said. “It’s beneficial to everyone whether they like it or not.”

Jonathan Boudreau, a sophomore sociology major, said he learned a lot from the performance.

“Women don’t show the feelings they are really feeling,” Boudreau said.

Tommy Nierman, a junior business management major, thought Packard was really funny.

“He said it like it is and mainly to women,” Nierman said.

Nierman said he learned how to “unleash his sexy gorilla.”
