Experience Spanish Club: culture, homework, food
Students who are Spanish majors or minors or just have an interest in the Spanish culture may want to check out the Spanish Club.
“The club is mostly Spanish majors and minors, but anyone is welcome,” Spanish Club President Laura Anderson said. Anderson joined the club when it formed in Spring 2009.
“I’m a Spanish major and I thought it would look good on a resume. It also gave me a chance to meet more people, especially in my major,” said Anderson.
Anderson was not the only one to go to Spanish club to meet new people.
“My favorite part is being around other people who enjoy Spanish, and who I can practice it with on occasion,” Jennifer Clinton, a sophomore accounting major said.
Others join it for the experience.
“I joined Spanish club freshman year. I decided to join to get more experience speaking Spanish and to meet new people and learn more about the culture,” Margaret Xenakis, junior communication disorders and sciences major said.
Typical meetings go over business on the agenda and then people are welcome to bring up whatever they want to talk about, Anderson said.
The club also offers help with Spanish homework.
“Anyone who needs help with Spanish homework is welcome,” Anderson said.
The group also goes out to El Rancherito or Los Potrillos for some of their meetings.
“My favorite part about Spanish club is the social aspect of eating dinner at Los Portrillos or El Rancherito and speaking Spanish with friends,” Xenakis said.
Upcoming events for the Spanish Club are movie nights, volunteer projects and a possible food exchange with the French Club.
Spanish Club meets every Monday at 6 p.m. in the foreign language seminar room on the first floor of Coleman Hall.
