Taylor ‘ROCS’ obstacle race
Two men from Weller and two women from Lawson lined-up with their legs tied together waiting for Residence Hall Association president, Jake Nees, to give the signal for them to start.
They take off down the south quad and tap the next participant who has to run through a blown-up obstacle course full of nets and ropes.
They ended with a slide and the next two people wheelbarrow to the end where the timer stops.
Weller won this match but still had the rest of the halls to compete with as everyone was timed.
Students from residence halls competed yesterday in the obstacle course as part of Residence On Campus Fest, or ROC Fest.
Nicci Vergara, community development chair for RHA, helped set everything up and made sure each team was signed in. She also helped plan ROC Fest and liked the idea of the obstacle course race.
“It was really fun last year,” Vergara said. “A lot of people came out last year.”
This year Taylor Hall took first place with a time of 33.4 seconds, Weller Hall took second place with 34.22 seconds and Carman came in third place with 34.44 seconds.
Ben Rayburn, a resident of Weller Hall, ran the blown-up obstacle course for his team.
“I thought we could have done better,” Rayburn said.
Rayburn said the best part of the obstacle course was all the halls got to go against each other and the intensity.
“We had a few athletes,” he said.
Nick Fulco, a resident of Carman Hall, also ran the blown-up obstacle course for his team. He thought the hardest part was having to climb the rope ladder in the blown-up obstacle course.
“You had to balance,” Fulco said. “It was pure strength.”
All halls competed in the course except for Douglas Hall, Andrews Hall, and Stevenson Hall, who did no have enough people there to compete.
Before anyone was allowed to compete, they had to sign a waiver.
Anyone that signed a waiver was allowed to go through the blown-up course for fun.
McKinney Hall and Lincoln Hall were the last two teams to compete.
McKinney Hall beat Lincoln Hall in their two-hall match and ran fast enough to place but was later disqualified for wearing shoes in the blown-up course.
