Tax day is April 15 and people everywhere will be rushing to send off the infamous paperwork. While some people may be uncertain about tax technicalities and find tax time stressful, look for daily tax advice in The Daily Eastern News to help you on your way.
Today’s tip:
Out of all life’s firsts, the tax return is not one a student wants to fumble
“A person’s first tax return often signals a transition from being a dependent to being an adult, because it may mean you’re earning your own living for the first time,” said Ronny Pearce, the Mattoon H&R Block franchise owner. “So it’s important not to blow the basics and to set a good precedent for a lifetime of filing taxes to come.”
While filling out a tax return it is essential to know the situation when it is necessary to fill out your first tax return.
This may include a change in dependent status, entering the workforce or a change in marital status.
The correct, relevant information needed to file a tax form and the knowledge of which form to fill out and how to pay the taxes that are due is also an essential part of the season.
Some of this may seem elementary; however, getting these points right the first time will save the taxpayer later.
