Drake makes debut performance at Eastern
Aubrey “Drake” Graham will perform at 8 p.m. today in Lantz Arena for the first stop on his “Away from Home” tour.
The concert has sold about 3,300 tickets, and tickets will still be on sale before the concert in the Lantz box office.
Tickets will cost $24 for the general public and $22 for students. Call in tickets can also be picked up at this time.
Drake first appeared on the Canadian television show “Degrassi” in 2001 and will release his first album “Thank Me Later” in May.
Drake has also appeared in the 2007 movie “Charlie Bartlett.”
The opening acts are K-OS and Francis and the Lights.
This will be the first college K-OS will perform at in the United States.
The University Board thinks Drake will bring diversity to the campus.
“He already had celebrity status,” said Ceci Brinker, director of student life. “We are excited to bring someone of his caliber of the same genre as last year to campus.”
Erickson to perform today
Scott “Renegade” Erickson was scheduled to open the concert as this semester’s winner of the “So You Think You Can Rap” contest. Erickson will no longer be performing because of a contract conflict with Drake’s management.
Erickson said Brinker told him the UB did what they could to get him on the bill, but Drake’s management had the final say.
Erickson said only three students have been able to be the opening act for the spring concert in the last 20 years because of contract issues.
Instead, Erickson will perform at 7 p.m. today at Kahuna’s on Fourth Street.
“So, if you don’t want to see the K-Os, come see me,” Erickson said.
