BREAKING: Women’s basketball assistant coach dies
Updated 12:21 p.m.: Jacqueline Moore, Eastern women’s basketball assistant coach, died late Wednesday at the age of 28.
Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers confirmed at 12:05 a.m. Thursday that Moore, who was entering her third season with the team, collapsed while working out and died.
Schniers said Thursday afternoon that an autopsy has been completed but a cause of death will not be determined for about four to six weeks.
He said her time of death was 9:44 p.m. and as far as he could tell the death was of natural causes.
According to Eastern sports information director Rich Moser, doctors said Moore’s heart ‘just stopped.’
A memorial service for Moore will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Lantz Arena.
All weekend athletic events have been canceled by the Eastern athletic department.
Moore is a native of Windsor, Ontario, and graduated from Christian Brothers University, located in Memphis, Tenn., in 2005.
