World-renowned group stops by Doudna
The Moscow-based Chamber Orchestra Kremlin has performed more than 1,300 concerts in its home and across the world.
The orchestra will add to this number when it performs at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Dvorak Concert Hall of the Doudna Fine Arts Center.
The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin is said to be one of the preeminent orchestras of Russia, having performed at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Wigmore Hall in London.
“The orchestra has the reputation of being one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world,” said Dan Crews, the contract events coordinator and promotions manager for the College of Arts and Humanities.
The orchestra is made up of 17 members, with nine violins, four violas, three cellos and one double bass.
Conductor Misha Rachlevsky and the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin have been touring the United States since Oct. 4.
The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin is on their 24th tour through the U.S., performing throughout the Midwest and the East Coast.
“The tour is going very well, we are approaching the mid-point of it now,” Rachlevsky said.
The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin has not been back to the Midwest to perform in a long time.
While at Eastern, the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin will play pieces by Edward Elgar, Dmitri Shostakovich, J.S. Bach and Antonin Dvorak. The audience will decide what piece the orchestra will play for their finale.
Audience members will have the options of Franz Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden,” Dvorak’s “Serenade for Strings, Op. 22,” or Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings, Op. 48.”
“We’ll do our best not to disappoint,” Rachlevsky said.
Since their establishment in 1991, the orchestra has performed nearly 500 shows in Moscow and the rest on tours in 24 countries in Europe, North and South American and the Far East, and has released a total of 30 CDs.
Select audience members will get a chance to receive a free copy of one of the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin’s CDs, while others can purchase one at the event.
Tickets for the performance can be purchased at the Doudna Fine Arts Center box office on weekdays between 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and an hour before the concert.
Student and youth tickets are available for $7, Eastern employee and senior citizen tickets for $13 and adult tickets for $15.
