New junior pool league looking for entrants

Students interested in interacting with the community and improving their billiards game might want to take action before Monday.

The American Poolplayers Association, which has a league office in Decatur, is hoping to start a junior division league in Charleston for ages 7-20.

The league needs 12 additional players, with Monday’s registration deadline looming.

JoDee Dibson, the junior division representative for Charleston, said she thinks the new league will able to meet the minimum amount of players.

But if not, the new league will cease to start.

“It will fold,” she said.

Dibson said the league provides a great opportunity for college students to get involved in the community, adding a wide range of ages will comprise the teams.

She said one team already has a 7-year-old and a 20-year-old.

“That’s what we are hoping to do,” Dibson said.

She said the junior league also allows college kids to learn the rules for the adult league.

People are not eligible to join the adult league until they turn 21.

Students can also improve their pool game, if they are interested in joining the adult league, Dibson said.

The idea to start a junior division league developed after Dibson’s kids expressed interest in learning pool.

Registration is $10 per year.

Play would start Sept. 26 in the bowling alley at the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.
