Faculty senate to discuss MAP grant, enrollment

Today’s Faculty Senate meeting will focus on enrollment management and issues concerning the Monetary Award Program grant.

Jerry Donna, director of financial aid, and Brenda Major, director of admissions, will address the senate. Donna will concentrate on the MAP grants, while Major will report the numbers of enrollment and any breaks or trends in it.

John Pommier, Faculty Senate chair, said addressing these trends is important for faculty to know how to better teach.

“Maybe we have a demographic we didn’t know we were dealing with,” he said.

Through this presentation, faculty will also see what students the university is attracting and how the university can attract more students, Pommier said.

Donna will discuss the complications for students with the loss of the MAP grant in the spring semester and how that might affect enrollment.

Pommier said the senate will discuss what Eastern plans to do with the issue and what the faculty needs to know about the problem.

The MAP grant provides funds for students in need of aid. This grant increases with the year a student is in school.

The Faculty Senate will also talk about the faculty council elections. The new deadline for applications is Sept. 25, and the elections will be Oct. 13 and 14.

The Faculty Senate meeting is at 2 p.m. today in Room 4440 of Booth Library.
