RHA discusses retreat, positions at weekly meeting

The Residence Hall Association gathered Thursday in Carman Hall to discuss the upcoming RHA retreat.

The RHA retreat is scheduled for next weekend at Camp New Hope in Mattoon.

Shannon Davis, RHA secretary and a senior secondary education major, said the retreat is “a great bonding experience.”

She said she hopes this retreat will help make great leaders and create long-lasting bonds.

Anyone interested in going on the RHA retreat to learn more leadership skills can sign up online at the RHA link before Sept. 16.

Cody Martin, RHA programming and diversity coordinator and a senior psychology and sociology major, announced plans for the upcoming Residents on Campus Fest. During the week of festivities, resident halls will compete against each other.

“Its trying to accomplish getting halls unified,” Martin said.

Adviser reports were given where Resident Hall Director Temetria Hargett quoted words of encouragement from Roger Babson, who founded Babson College in Massachusetts.

“It is wise to keep in mind that neither success nor failure is ever final,” read Hargett.

She said to remember these words while coordinating and attending resident hall programs.

“My motivation for doing these quotes is trying to encourage,” Hargett said.

New business for the meeting included the proposal to eliminate the programming and diversity position and combine its responsibilities with the vice president’s position.

The executive board is planning on combining the positions as they have overlapping duties.

“We are really putting emphasis on committees this year,” said RHA President Karla Browning, a junior family and consumer sciences major.

Representatives from EIU Moves and Take Back the Night spoke at the meeting in order to try and get support from the RHA to become involved in their activities.

The next meeting is Sept. 17 in Stevenson Hall.
