Red, White and Blue Days begin Sunday

Charleston’s Red, White and Blue Days kick off this Sunday with bingo in Morton Park.

The game goes from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and cash and other prizes will be awarded to the winners.

After a few days’ break, festivities resume on Thursday, July 2, in Kiwanis Park on the corner of Division Street and Jackson Avenue.

The Charleston Community Band will perform a Star Spangled Tribute concert at 7:30 p.m.

The festivities return to Morton Park Friday, July 3, with a rock concert by Hello Dave at 6 p.m.

Heidi Newfield, a country music artist, will headline the evening. Newfield is set to take the stage at 8 p.m.

The celebration starts at 7 a.m. on the Fourth of July with a four-mile run/walk for Habitat for Humanity.

The Coles County Arts Council is sponsoring the Great Chalk-In at 9 a.m.

Inflatable games, food vendors and a fire safety foam fun pit will be set up all day at Morton Park. All-you-can-eat ice cream will also be available for $2.

The parade in downtown Charleston kicks off at 1 p.m. The parade will be followed by a final concert in the park featuring Chuck Wiss.

In typical Fourth of July fashion, Red, White and Blue Days culminate in a fireworks display at the Coles County Airport at dusk.

Shuttles to the airport will be available from Mattoon and Charleston. Food vendors will be on site there as well.
