Bills for budgets for fiscal year 2010 were approved at Wednesday’s Student Senate meeting.

After being tabled from last week, budgets for the Apportionment Board, the Student Recreation Center, the University Board and Student Government were voted on.

The Student Senate usually holds a period of discussion for each bill, but little discussion occurred at Wednesday’s meeting.

Student Body President Levi Bulgar said this may have been because the budgets were all straight-forward, and the members of the senate knew which way they were going to vote.

In other business, the senate bill to release the funding for the Live Line Demo was tabled until next week.

The Live Line Demo took place Tuesday, but the company does not expect to receive payment for the event until April 24, which is 17 days after the event.

The AB has approved the allocation, but Student Government still needs to approve the money at a meeting for it to be released from the reserve account.

Since the senate approved all the Campus Safety Week events with enthusiasm, Bulgar said he was hoping the bill would pass Wednesday.

“If (the student senate members) didn’t like the Live Line Demo, they would have gotten rid of it and the $500 to fund it,” Bulgar said.

“The fact that they left it in the original bill shows me that they did think it was a worthwhile event, it’s just the timing of it they have a problem with.”

Tiffany Turner, vice president for business affairs, said she was not pleased with the lack of discussion held over the past week about the Diversity Involvement Requirement bylaw change.

The members of the senate had many concerns with this change at last week’s meeting and voted to table it until this week.

The bylaw change was tabled again for next week to allow more time for discussion.
