With the economy currently struggling, many Americans are trying to spend their hard-earned dollars as wisely as possible.

So, with spring (hopefully) rapidly approaching, many individuals will be looking for something to do.

I suggest taking in a movie.

Now, I know going to the theaters can be expensive and the prices for popcorn and drinks are astronomical, but at least a handful of films are coming out in the spring and summer that will certainly be worth looking into.

Films such as “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” (May 1), “Star Trek” (May 8), “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (June 24) and “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” (Sept. 7) are all expected to do well with audiences.

Directors are expecting audiences to once again pile in for movies that were originally comic books, and I truly believe it will work.

Lets not forget that last summer’s box office was completely dominated by a little film called “The Dark Knight.”

Plus, this spring and summer’s crop of films seems to get not only children, but also adults, to the theaters.

Take “Star Trek” for example.

The plot of the movie is basically the story of how Captain Kirk and Spock grew up and became a part of the star-ship Enterprise.

Parents and adults alike will remember seeing the original “Star Trek” films and immediately be interested in seeing how it all began.

This movie may not sit well with the children, but they will at least appreciate the visuals.

The same can be said about “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” which will intrigue parents who read the comic books to get out and see the film.

Without a doubt, children and parents alike will be looking to see “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and “Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen.”

The long-anticipated film about Wolverine is possibly drawing the most attention with five separate trailer clips already being released.

The plot for Wolverine is exactly what the title implies, with Hugh Jackman once again reprising the role.

Although, from what I’ve seen, there are a lot of scenes with voilence and gore that parents may not want their children viewing, but I have a feeling the movie will hit well with the 16 to 30 age group.

“Transformers” will be more for the whole family, because of its casual humor being mixed in with giant robots battling for world domination.

Considering that the original “Transformers” film grossed a total of $319 million and many of the early reviews on the film were not good, reveals to me that “Transformers 2” could earn much more this time around.

So, with the spring and summer seasons approaching, everyone should take an opportunity to see a variety of films in the coming months that are not only for the children, but the parents as well.
