Greek Education Week begins today
Greek Education Week, an opportunity for Greeks and non-Greeks to learn, starts today.
The events are put on in order to educate the fraternities and sororities on campus about a plethora of topics.
Altogether there will be 16 presentations throughout the week from the Health Education Resource Center, the Academic Success Center, the Red Cross, a representative from Girls Fight Back and more.
Robyn Paige, the interim director for Greek Life, thinks highly of Greek Education Week.
“The chapters and councils sponsor and plan educational presentations throughout the year,” Paige said. “But having a week where we can really focus on this is a nice opportunity for the chapters and presenters.”
Michael Hilty, vice president of membership development for the Interfraternity Council, said while this week is traditionally geared toward Greeks and enabling them to fulfill their education requirements, this year Greek Education Week is also directing itself toward non-Greek members.
“This year, we took a different approach and wanted to provide educational opportunities that could be used to help benefit any student on campus,” Hilty said. “We have professionals and students alike presenting educationals, so we have a good variety of people speaking during the week.”
There will be presentations every day during the week in order to provide information to all students about topics that traditionally cannot be taught in any classroom.
Morgan Slattery, vice president of membership development for the Panhellenic Council, said Greek Education Week is offering something for every student on campus and encourages everyone to come out.
“We have 16 educationals throughout the week,” Slattery said. “I encourage everyone to come out and listen to many of the different topics that we are offering during the week.”
