Not this week: Apportionment Board did not officially meet because of absent members
Apportionment Board did not have an official meeting last night because four members were missing.
Apportionment Board Chair Tiffany Turner said the meeting did not meet its quorum.
Turner said the four members might not have received the e-mail about the meeting prior to Thursday night.
Apportionment Board did have an unofficial meeting where it brought up topics, but these topics cannot be voted on until next week’s meeting.
University Board came forward with a request to have a $1,400 line-item transfer for University Board. The funds would be moved from payroll to an unallocated budget, which would then be used for UB marketing.
“It’s basically for printing costs, campus connections and posters,” said Matthew Hagaman of University Board marketing. “The money would be moved from one part of University Board’s budget to another.”
AB member Laurel Fuqua said the assistant comptroller wants a budget reduction for the fiscal year 2009 to make up for fiscal year 2008.
Fuqua said to make matters worse, the budget for this year looks like it might go over with payroll as well.
“We need to see if the budget is a 10-month or 12-month projection,” Fuqua said. “If it is for 10 months, then there will be two months of salary that will not be coming out of this budget. That is just what is projected to be over this fiscal year, that is basically what a budget is, only a projection.”
AB member Ted Hart said if the budget were still over once this projection is made, AB would then have to request an additional allocation.
“This has happened before since we start out the budget process so early and it is subject to change,” Hart said.
UB members and Student Senate members came to the meeting to discuss what different activities they put on each year and what they would need to come to AB for in the future.
UB Chair Mike Usher and UB Vice Chair Sydney Stanhope said the board sponsors events such as homecoming, cultural arts events, comedy shows, movies, Quakin’ in the Quad, Fright Fest and Chuck Vegas.
Student Body President Levi Bulgar talked about the senate sponsors Pantherpalooza, First Night and other activities.
Two new members will be approved at next week’s meeting since this week’s meeting was not in quorum.
