Student reports being followed

An Eastern student reported a male subject was following her on campus at 5:55 a.m. Wednesday on Fourth Street just west of the Physical Sciences Building, according to a campus crime alert e-mail sent to students, faculty and staff Friday evening.

The e-mail from Dan Nadler, vice president for student affairs, stated that when the student turned to confront the man he departed in the opposite direction.

The subject was described as a white man in his mid-50s, between 5’8″ and 5’10”, thinly built, with short brown hair and an unkempt short beard. He was wearing jeans and a black leather jacket with straps that contained large silver snaps.

The crime alert e-mail is the second one the university has issued within two weeks.

An alert was sent out on Sept. 10 after an Eastern student reported she was sexually assaulted Sept. 9 on Grant Avenue between Fourth Street and University Drive.

Anyone with information on the incident, or similar incidents, should contact the University Police Department at 581-5221 or the Charleston Police Department at 581-3212.
