Too many regurgitated ideas

The 3 -month break we call summer was a beautiful, relaxing one for me.

One thing I enjoyed on a nice Saturday afternoon was to pick up my friends and go out for lunch.

During the rides, we listened to music with the windows wide open and the breeze cooled us down.

One of these fine afternoons, we stumbled upon a radio station starting a new song, a familiar tune I remembered as “Werewolves of London” by Warren Zevon.

Unfortunately, I quickly discovered it was not Zevon singing or whistling like a werewolf.

The song ruined Zevon’s tune along with Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama,” forever.

Turns out, what I started hearing was the vile voice of Kid Rock trying to put his own spin on a couple of classic songs.

The song, “All Summer Long,” appears on his latest album, “Rock N Roll Jesus.”

Rock ‘n’ roll Jesus? More like the rock ‘n’ roll plague.

The song serves as just one example of the entertainment world’s lack of originality.

It reached as high as No. 6 on the American Billboard chart, and even hit No. 1 on a U.K. chart.

I wish I could make lots of money by putting together a couple of lame lyrics about summer and using other classic songs for the background!

I know this seems like a trend; sampling other bands’ music to use as your own, something artists like Beck, Girl Talk and many rappers have done, but is it really that hard to come up with something original?

Tons of bands come out with new, original music every day, but it seems like these unimaginative songs get more radio play.

Music lovers and listeners should reject this type of music because we deserve better, more authentic music.

If people like Kid Rock want respect, then don’t try and capitalize on the success of other great songs because you have no talent.

This kind of song makes me wonder, “Who do you think you are?”

The music industry is not alone.

Hollywood seems to feel the need to remake every film.

“Batman,” “Superman,” “Starsky and Hutch” and “Charlie’s Angels,” are just a few remakes of films or TV shows.

Pretty soon we will see “Back to the Future” and “Ghostbusters” remakes and even a “Gilligan’s Island” movie, 21st century-style!
