Updated 9/12 9:34 p.m. CST
Eastern’s offense didn’t spend much time on the field during the first quarter of Saturday night’s game at O’Brien Stadium.
But a field goal by red-shirt senior kicker Tyler Wilke and a touchdown return for an interception by red-shirt sophomore cornerback Rashad Haynes gave the Panthers an early 10-0 lead en route to Eastern’s 38-3 victory against Indiana State.
Red-shirt senior running back Travorus Bess once again led Eastern in rushing with 93 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries, and freshman running back Desmin Ward added another score on the ground.
Eastern red-shirt junior quarterback Bodie Reeder completed 9-of-15 passes for 107 yards with touchdowns to red-shirt sophomores Charles Graves and Sean McGrath.
Indiana State was led by sophomore quarterback Chuck Dowdell who had 52 yards rushing and 55 yards passing. Dowdell also fumbled the ball three times and lost one.
The Panthers play again next on Sept. 27 at Illinois State.
