Softball: Eastern exits tournament after consecutive losses

Eastern first lost to Tennessee Tech in the first round to put them into the loser bracket of the tournament.

Then the Panthers’ went on to play their last game against sixth-seed Morehead State last Friday when they lost 7-4.

The Panthers had two strong showings of back-to-back home runs from senior Ally Nolte and freshman Taylor Lawson.

Nolte’s three-run homer and Lawson’s following solo homer was enough to put the Panthers in the lead.

Unfortunately, Morehead took back the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Megan Nelson said the team had a good start with the homeruns.

“The back-to-back home runs put us ahead,” Nelson said. “But they came back and out hit us. The game fell their way.”

Nelson was named to the OVC All-Tournament Team.

The sophomore had the second highest batting average on the team with a .335 and had a 5-for-7 showing in the OVC Tournament.

The Panthers ended their season with a record of 20-26.
