Erin Morettes and Amanda Raz have known each other since high school.

Raz, a senior special education major and art major, wanted Morettes to come with her to the “Maybury DOA,” a murder-mystery event, sponsored by student government Tuesday night in the Grand Ballroom of the Martin Luther King Junior University Union.

“I thought it would be a really neat experience, and I wanted to bring Erin,” Raz said.

The event was a part of student government’s student-teacher interaction program.

Students were required to bring a faculty member with them.

The Champaign Urbana Theatre Company hosted the murder-mystery event.

The plot of the performance was the citizens of Maybury were at a dinner to acknowledge Sam Goldwin, who was making a documentary.

But the events during the dinner did not go as planned. Randy Taylor, a character played by Les Schulte, had been having an affair.

Soon after, Les Schulte’s Randy character died. Then Sam, played by Rita Schulte, died.

Students and faculty members had to try and figure out who murdered the two characters.

The members of the theater company mingled with the audience, letting them ask questions regarding the murder.

The students and faculty were to look at the evidence, both physical and verbal, to help solve the murder.

Throughout the night, members of the theatre company were placing clues on the tables where the audience members were sitting.

Theater members also left notes, which helped lead to who the murderer was.

They then voted on whom they named the murderer.

After the investigation, it was found out that Ernst committed the murder. Doug Rokke played the villain.

Freshman Weston Steinberg brought mathematics professor Andrew White.

Steinberg had taken White’s University Foundations class and is now enrolled in one of White’s math classes.

“I nominated Weston to be an Emerging Leader, which is a group on campus for students who show potential,” White said.

Raz said she liked the fact that the murder mystery actors came and talked to the audience members.

“There was never a dull moment,” Raz said.
