Comedian Friday appeared hit-or-miss

Kevin Bozeman thinks Eastern is like every other college.

Bozeman is a comedian who performed Friday at 7th Street Underground. Bozeman is known for his appearances on “Star Search” and “Comedy Central’s Premium Blend.”

“Eastern is like all colleges,” he said. “But it was great to perform here and see the different people.”

Bozeman got his start in comedy in his hometown of Madison, Wisc.

He chose to be a professional comedian because he liked comedy and he wanted to prove that he could be a successful.

During Friday’s performance, Bozeman’s jokes ranged from sexual to racial in nature.

When the audience showed lack of enthusiasm for the jokes that were sexual in nature, Bozeman changed topic.

“He adapted to the crowd well,” said Mike Baggot, a sophomore special education major. “When he found out that the sexual jokes did not work very well, he switched to something else. He stayed on task and was very professional.”

Some students liked the variety of Bozeman’s jokes.

Andy Brachear, a pre-business major, said he liked how Bozeman kept changing his jokes to adapt to the crowd.

In order to keep audience interested, Bozeman asked two students to play the piano during his jokes.

As the students played the piano, Bozeman preceded to tell jokes that had nothing to do with the piano playing.

Despite the piano playing being well-received, some students felt Bozeman was not as funny as he could have been.

Nicole Darrow, sophomore special education major, said she had seen Bozeman before on “Comedy Central” and thought he was funnier there.

“I think maybe the set-up of the room caused him to be distracted. I didn’t laugh at all his jokes,” Darrow said.

Bozeman agreed that the set-up of 7th Street Underground made him uncomfortable.

He described the venue as a basement and said he was a little uncomfortable with the low ceilings due to his height.
