Men’s Tennis: Panthers drop both matches

The Panthers traveled to Wisconsin this weekend and dropped both of their matches.

Marquette defeated Eastern 7-0 on Sunday at the Helfaer Tennis & Recreation Center in Milwaukee. The match was originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, but it was pushed back because of inclement weather.

The Panthers (1-2) did not win a singles or doubles match against Marquette. The Golden Eagles (4-2) won all of the singles matches without dropping a set.

Jeff Rutherford fought a hard, tough match on Saturday.

The Eastern sophomore won in three sets on Saturday against Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Tim Prudlow, 2-6, 6-3, 10-3.

It was not enough, however, as the Panthers dropped the other five singles competitions. The Phoenixes (1-1) defeated Eastern 6-1 on Saturday in Milwaukee. The Phoenixes won two of the doubles competition to take the doubles point as well.

The Panthers return to action at 4 p.m. on Feb. 8 at Saint Louis.
