Triple Threat: Young NFL deaths
Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor died Tuesday morning after he was shot in his home early Monday. Taylor died in Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. He made the 2006 Pro Bowl due in part to his reputation as a hard hitter. He was 24 years old. He is the latest of many players who have died young and unexpectedly.
Here are three other professional football players that have died young.
1. Darrent Williams (24) – The Denver Broncos cornerback was killed in a drive-by shooting last December hours after the Broncos had their season-ending loss.
2. Thomas Herrion (24) – The former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman collapsed after an exhibition game on Aug. 20, 2005. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Research would later find that Herrion died from Ischaemic heart disease, which is a condition that reduces the supply of blood to the heart.
3. Pat Tillman (27) – Former Arizona Cardinals safety was killed in Afghanistan while serving as an Army Rangers soldier April 22, 2004. He was shot in a friendly-fire situation. Tillman walked away from a 3.6 million dollar contract to serve his country after the Sept. 11 attacks in New York.
